What's really true about AI grants

Every week brings new headlines about artificial intelligence grants. Some funding lines are open, others have already been awarded and others are not direct grants to companies at all. Before planning a project that counts on a grant, it's worth knowing where each one stands and who can apply for it.

Our advice: a good AI project has to make sense without a grant too. The sensible approach is to have it ready to submit on day one, not to design it around a call that doesn't exist today. Information reviewed in September 2026.

Status as of September 2026

Cupons d'incorporació d'IA (ACCIÓ's AI adoption vouchers): 2026 call closed. It was open from 15 May to 30 July 2026.
Kit Consulting: no new call published. Orden TDF/38/2026 requires unspent funds to be reinvested in the program.
Kit Digital (Spain's digitalization grant program): no open call. Orden TDF/39/2026 amended its regulatory bases in January 2026.
Kit Espacios de Datos (the data spaces grant): application period closed on 31 March 2026.
Red.es program of €40 million for AI use cases: applications from 9 September to 10 November 2026, only for collaborating organizations, not for individual companies.
Red IA and Red IA Salud (€180 million, 372 projects): awarded on 31 August 2026.

The funding lines worth knowing

Cupons d'incorporació d'IA (ACCIÓ)

Up to €8,000 for an AI adoption assessment covering priority solutions, data, infrastructure and costs. For companies based in Catalonia with at least 10 employees, 2 years of activity and in the sectors set by the call.

The advisor has requirements too

In 2026, the assessment had to be contracted with an ACCIÓ-accredited advisor with at least 3 AI projects.

Responsible AI in DIH4CAT

An ACCIÓ program within DIH4CAT, with more than €6 million until 2028, that supports SMEs with assessments, testing and advice. It was announced on 2 March 2026.

Kit Consulting

Funds strategic consulting (assessment, roadmap and use cases), not software purchases. As of September 2026, no new call has been published.

Red.es: €40 million for AI use cases

Applications come from business or professional associations and from technology or innovation centers, which will offer SMEs at least 30 use cases as a service.

Are there any open grants for AI projects right now?

As of September 2026, ACCIÓ's Cupons d'incorporació d'IA are closed, Kit Consulting and Kit Digital have no open call and Red IA has already been awarded. The €40 million Red.es program accepts applications until 10 November 2026, but only from associations and technology or innovation centers.

What are ACCIÓ's Cupons d'incorporació d'IA?

They are a funding line launched in 2026 by ACCIÓ, the Government of Catalonia's business competitiveness agency: up to €8,000 for a company based in Catalonia to commission an AI adoption assessment. The 2026 call was open from 15 May to 30 July and is now closed.

What requirements does the advisor have to meet?

In the 2026 call, the assessment had to be contracted with an ACCIÓ-accredited advisor with at least 3 AI projects. Namastech is an ACCIÓ Accredited Advisory Company, and before preparing an application we review the requirements of the current call with you.

When will Kit Consulting return?

No date has been published. Orden TDF/38/2026 lays the groundwork for reinvesting unspent funds, but amending the regulatory bases is not the same as opening a call, which will appear in the BOE (Spain's Official State Gazette) and on the online portal of Red.es, the agency that runs the program.

Can an SME benefit from the €40 million Red.es program?

Yes, but not by applying directly. The selected collaborating organizations will develop AI use cases and offer them to SMEs as a service, so if you belong to an association or a cluster, ask whether it plans to take part.
